I am Head of Latin at a local school in Tunbridge Wells. I am a qualified secondary school teacher of Latin and Ancient Greek, and tutor pupils from primary level up to A Level and IB. I also have pupils who are learning an ancient language ‘for fun’ rather than for a formal qualification.

Alongside Classics, I am an experienced 11+ tutor for Kent grammar school entry, providing focused preparation in English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Lessons are carefully designed to build core skills, exam technique and confidence, tailored to each pupil.

I set up personalised coaching built around your child's individual needs. No two learners are the same and every programme reflects that. Sessions are warm, focused, and purposeful. Every child should leave feeling more capable and confident than when they arrived.

First lesson

What to expect in your first session

01

Initial chat (10–15 mins)

We talk through your child’s goals, what they find challenging, and what they enjoy. I ask about their learning style and any upcoming exams or deadlines.

02

Assessment (15–20 mins)

I give them a short, low-pressure task to see where they are — vocabulary, grammar, or reasoning depending on the subject. This isn't a test; it helps me understand their current level.

03

Teaching segment (20–25 mins)

We work through something together — a grammar concept, a translation, or a reasoning technique. Your child gets a feel for how I teach and whether my style clicks with them.

04

Plan & next steps (10 mins)

I outline what I recommend going forward: topics to cover, frequency of sessions, timeline to goals. You decide if it feels right. No pressure to continue.

Common questions

FAQ

How long are sessions?+

Sessions are typically 1 hour. For younger pupils or intensive exam prep, I can adjust to 45 minutes or 90 minutes depending on what works best.

Do you provide materials?+

Yes. I create custom resources tailored to each pupil's needs and send them after every session. I also provide exam papers and practice materials where relevant.

What if we need to cancel?+

Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are charged at full rate. Cancellations with 24–48 hours' notice are charged at 50%.

Online or in-person — which is better?+

Both work brilliantly. Online is convenient and flexible. In-person is great for younger pupils who benefit from face-to-face attention. Many families switch between both.

How quickly will I see results?+

Most pupils show noticeable confidence gains within 3–4 sessions. Exam results depend on starting point and time available, but consistent weekly sessions deliver real progress.

What happens in a first lesson?+

We meet, discuss your child's goals and challenges, and I assess where they are. Then we dive into a short teaching segment so they get a feel for how I work. No pressure, just exploration.
